TeamOrgChart SharePoint Add-In Retirement

Microsoft has announced the final retirement of the SharePoint Add-In model.

After April 2, 2026, SharePoint Add-Ins will cease to function in SharePoint Online.

See the Microsoft's announcement for further details. View announcement.

TeamOrgChart customers using the legacy SharePoint Add-In are directly affected by this change.

If your tenant is using the TeamOrgChart Add-In on one or more of your SharePoint pages, once Microsoft disables the Add-In framework, these pages will no longer render charts.

To maintain functionality, you should migrate to the TeamOrgChart SPFx web part.

The migration is a one-time change and should be completed prior to the retirement date to avoid unnecessary service interruption.

Please note that the shut-down of the SharePoint Add-In or failure to carry out the migration will not result in the loss of any data or organization chart definitions. These will still be accessible through our Teams application (TeamOrgChart+) and directly through TeamOrgChart.

Migration Overview

The migration consists of four steps:

  1. Grant TeamOrgChart the required Microsoft Graph permissions.
  2. Install the TeamOrgChart SPFx web part into your SharePoint Tenant.
  3. Replace the Add-In on SharePoint pages.
  4. Run a one-time migration for SharePoint List–based charts (if applicable).

Grant Required Permissions

If you use organization charts based on the SharePoint User Profile service or a SharePoint List then you may need to grant additional permissions.

The following Microsoft Graph scopes are required:

  • Sites.Read.All: required to read SharePoint SharePoint User Profile Service and SharePoint lists.
  • User.Read.All: required to retrieve user profile information, including profile photos.
  • profile: required to resolve user identity.
  • email: required for user identification.

You can confirm your list of granted scopes using this page: teamorgchart.com/userinfo.

If you scopes list contains Sites.Read.All, User.Read.All and profile then you do not need to grant any additional permissions.

All required permissions can be granted from the following endpoint: teamorgchart.com/tenant/sharepointscopes

Administrator consent is required.

If these permissions are not granted, the SPFx web part will be unable to access the SharePoint User Profile service and therefore be unable to render charts based on the User Profile Service.

Verify Permissions

To confirm that the required permissions have been granted successfully:

  1. Open an InPrivate / Incognito browser window.
  2. Navigate to: teamorgchart.com.
  3. Sign in using a Microsoft 365 account.
  4. Open a chart that uses the SharePoint User Profile Service data source.

If the chart loads successfully, the required permissions have been applied correctly.

If the chart fails to load, or access is denied, the permissions have not been granted or admin consent was not completed.

Download and Install the TeamOrgChart SPFx Web Part

  1. Download the TeamOrgChart SPFx package from: teamorgchart.com/toc/admin/sharepoint-page.
  2. Upload the package to your SharePoint App Catalog and approve the deployment so it is available to the sites where TeamOrgChart is used.
  3. Deploy the solution according to your organisation’s SharePoint app management model (tenant-wide or site-specific).

SharePoint administrator permissions are required to complete this step.

For official Microsoft guidance on managing and deploying custom solutions (including SPFx packages) using the SharePoint App Catalog, refer to Microsoft's guide.

Replace the Add-In on SharePoint Pages

  1. Identify all SharePoint pages that currently use the TeamOrgChart Add-In.
  2. Add the TeamOrgChart web part to the page.
  3. Configure the web part to point to the appropriate existing chart.

Chart definitions are reused. End users should see no functional change once the page is updated.

Run One-Time Migration (SharePoint List Charts Only)

If you have charts that use the SharePoint List data source, you must run a one-time migration process.

Access the migration process here: teamorgchart.com/spomigrate.

This process:

  • Updates existing chart configurations
  • Enables them for use with the SPFx solution

Charts using other data sources are not affected and do not require migration.
